Abstract Database systems which support preorchestrated multimedia presentations must be able to adapt the resource demand of executing presentations. Such adaptations can be dictated by underlying resource management components. When resources are not reserved, such adaptations are necessary to overcome uctuating resource availability. Adaptations across components of presentations as well as across concurrent sessions have to be considered in the context of the individual needs of presentation providers and viewers. This paper describes the general concept of Reactive Playout Management (RPM) which provides an application-independent service for adaptive multimedia presentations. The PYLOT scheme (PlaYout Load OpTimization scheme) is proposed which enables RPM in best-eeort architectures. In particular, the global allocation routine of PYLOT is elaborated. This routine allocates load shares which sessions must give up or may add on according to replugable adjustment strategies. In an optional post-optimization step, the routine manipulates the load proportions such that minimal total adjustment costs and maximal total adjustment proot are achieved, respectively. This optimization is demonstrated by experimental results.

متن کاملCombination of Adaptive-Grid Embedding and Redistribution Methods on Semi Structured Grids for two-dimensional invisid flows
Among the adaptive-grid methods, redistribution and embedding techniques have been the focus of more attention by researchers. Simultaneous or combined adaptive techniques have also been used. This paper describes a combination of adaptive-grid embedding and redistribution methods on semi-structured grids for two-dimensional invisid flows. Since the grid is semi-structured, it is possible to us...
متن کاملADAPTIVE NEURO-FUZZY INFERENCE SYSTEM OPTIMIZATION USING PSO FOR PREDICTING SEDIMENT TRANSPORT IN SEWERS
The flow in sewers is a complete three phase flow (air, water and sediment). The mechanism of sediment transport in sewers is very important. In other words, the passing flow must able to wash deposited sediments and the design should be done in an economic and optimized way. In this study, the sediment transport process in sewers is simulated using a hybrid model. In other words, using the Ada...
متن کاملThe Prediction of Forming Limit Diagram of Low Carbon Steel Sheets Using Adaptive Fuzzy Inference System Identifier
The paper deals with devising the combination of fuzzy inference systems (FIS) and neural networks called the adaptive network fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) to determine the forming limit diagram (FLD). In this paper, FLDs are determined experimentally for two grades of low carbon steel sheets using out-of-plane (dome) formability test. The effect of different parameters such as work hardening...
